When What Used to Work Stops Working
Jul 24, 2026
As I sit here on one of Sage’s horses, helping her warm up for this rodeo, I realize… THIS is one huge reason I focus so much on health, longevity and being present.
Al and I had Sage a little later in life. I was almost 42 when she was born.
I’m so thankful we all enjoy the same activities together, and this makes it even more important to me that we stay healthy and able to do it with Sage as long as possible.
What used to work for my body, stopped working.
As a personal trainer and life long fitness/ food/ health nut, I thought I had it all figured out.
Until I didn’t.
Post partum crashed into perimenopause then to menopause and I remember feeling so “off”.
I would tell Al, everything checks out on my blood work and according to docs of all kinds but something still feels “off”.
I tried all the things I knew to try, still off.
Night sweats and hot flashes are expected in menopause and they weren’t that bad, so I didn’t realize the bloating, random extra aches and pains, not sleeping, anxious and down feelings were also related to dropping levels of female hormones.
No one mentioned this part of menopause. It was just “part of getting older”.
But I refused to settle for “it’s just the way it is”.
Thanks to my Mom, it’s bred into me to question and not to settle.
So I dug in. I talked with other friends my age and a little older who were crushing it in menopause, feeling better than ever, and asked what they were doing.
Then I put my skepticism aside and gave it a shot.
Sure enough, my wise friends were right!
This combo works.
There’s so much fear implanted in the standard medical community M.O.
It only increases the anxiety and resultant cortisol levels (which we’re actually trying to lower).
>>For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.<<
I feel this and lean into the power, the love and sound mind I have.
What works for me now is different than before.
We keep changing and so should our supportive tools.
They may not be what work for you but rest assured, you’re not just slowly losing it. Trust your gut and your body.
If you’re looking to visit with an “older” friend, like I did, who has walked through some challenges and found real solutions, I’m happy to share what’s been working.
